Description

Working Families, and its state work in Rhode Island, advocates to make the needs of working families the priority of our government. We build an engaged membership of residents across the state ready to advocate for the changes working families deserve. The Working Families Party, also recruits, elects, and supports candidates committed to economic, racial, social, and environmental justice, and holds elected officials accountable to these core values. WFP uses the power we generate through our organizing and electoral work to win tangible victories that make a real difference in the everyday lives of working families.
RIWFP has a long track record of advocating for meaningful public policy including:
- Paid sick days for over 100,000 Rhode Islanders
- A $15 an hour minimum wage
- Equal pay legislation
- Expungement of cannabis records
- Expanded voting access
About The Legislative Event Organizer
2024 Legislative Event Organizer(s) will be responsible for dramatically increasing Working Families Power’s contact with the community and for building relationships between Working Families Power members and their Working Families Party-allied elected officials. With the support of the existing staff, the Organizer(s) will work to grow the membership of Working Families in key neighborhoods across the state. Then, they will coordinate with a set of current Working Families Party elected officials to plan, promote, and facilitate local “town hall”-type events, co-hosted by WFP. Finally, the Organizer(s) will work to maintain relationships with the new members and event attendees, to encourage members’ continued engagement in  activities.
If successful, RIWFP will be able to count hundreds of new members in its ranks in diverse areas across Rhode Island. These members will be newly introduced to the role that we play  in local advocacy and elections, and will have a better understanding of their local political context by having attended an event with their elected officials. They hopefully will be more predisposed to volunteer with Working Families in the following legislative session, and may consider putting their time and skills toward assisting on a local political campaign.
